What this notice covers
Cova is a local craft-process notebook. You create projects, capture or import step photos, add titles and notes, set covers, browse built-in shooting tips, review steps in Process Roll, optionally share a photo, and optionally save a process photo to the system Photos app. You can use Cova without creating an account or signing in.
This policy explains the kinds of information that may be involved when those features run, why device permissions appear, how content stays on your device in ordinary use, and how to contact us. It applies to the Cova mobile application as shipped.
Information that can appear in ordinary use
Craft projects you create
When you build a project, Cova stores items you provide or generate in the app, such as project titles, summaries, materials notes, category and status labels, step titles, step notes, cover selections, and ordering of steps. These records exist so you can reopen and continue your workshop archive.
Photos and files you attach
Process images you capture with the camera or import from your library are stored as files on your device so they can be shown in project timelines and Process Roll. If you choose to save a step to Photos, the system Photos library receives that image through Apple's photo APIs after you confirm the action.
On-device preferences
Cova may keep small preference values on the device (for example display name text you type, onboarding already seen, or similar local settings) so the interface remembers your choices between launches.
Permission-related signals
If you allow App Tracking Transparency, Apple may provide a device advertising identifier and Cova may process limited interaction signals in aggregate to improve stability and prioritize fixes for flows such as project creation, camera capture, photo import, notes, covers, inspiration browsing, Process Roll review, and saving to Photos. If you decline tracking, Cova continues to work for core craft documentation features without that tracking permission.
Cova does not require a user profile, password, or membership account. Do not interpret this app as an online community or cloud journal unless a future version clearly states otherwise.
Device permissions you may see
iOS may show system prompts when a feature needs access. Cova requests only what the corresponding action needs:
- Camera — to photograph a process step when you tap capture or open camera.
- Microphone — may appear as part of the system camera experience; Cova does not record, store, or upload audio for its craft workflow.
- Photo Library (read) — so you can pick existing process photos to add to a project; only items you select are used.
- Photo Library (add) — so a process photo can be written to Photos when you explicitly confirm save.
- App Tracking Transparency — optional; used only if you authorize tracking as described above.
You can change these permissions later in iOS Settings. Denying a permission may disable the related action while leaving the rest of the notebook available.
Why information is processed
Within the scope of Cova's features, information is processed to:
- operate the project and step timeline you build;
- display images and notes you stored locally;
- honor your requests to share or save a photo through system sheets and Photos;
- remember local interface preferences;
- if tracking is authorized, evaluate reliability of key craft flows in aggregate.
We do not use the tracking permission for advertising placement.
Where content lives and when the network is used
In typical use, project metadata and process images remain on your device (including app storage areas used by Cova). Clearing projects from within the app removes associated local project records and related process image files that Cova manages for those projects.
Network access may occur when you open in-app legal pages that load web content, or when the operating system handles sharing and system services. Cova's craft notebook itself is designed around on-device records rather than a mandatory cloud login.
System frameworks and parties outside Cova
Cova uses Apple platforms such as Photos, camera interfaces, WebKit for displaying linked legal pages, and App Tracking Transparency. Those components are governed by Apple's terms and privacy materials in addition to this policy.
If you share a photo or save to Photos, the recipients or libraries you choose operate under their own rules. Cova does not embed a separate third-party analytics or advertising SDK in the shipped craft experience described here.
Care, retention, and your choices
We aim to protect on-device content with the safeguards provided by iOS and ordinary application sandboxing. No method of storage or transmission is free of risk, and you should keep your device locked and updated.
Process photos and project text generally remain until you delete a step or project, clear local project data in the app, or remove the app. Preference values may persist until reset or app removal.
You can decline optional permissions, avoid saving or sharing photos, and delete local projects. For questions about this policy, write to kiln.folio@covaworkbench.app.
Children and sensitive categories
Cova is intended for a general audience documenting craft work. It is not directed at children as a primary audience. Do not use Cova to collect sensitive personal data beyond what a craft notebook ordinarily needs. If you believe a child has provided information in a way that concerns you, contact us so we can help with reasonable next steps available for a local-first app.
Updates to this policy
We may revise this notice when features, permissions, or practices change. The effective date above will be updated when a revised version applies. Continued use after an update means you have had a chance to review the revised text.
